GUWAHATI: Around 73 lakh voters are set to seal the fates of 345 candidates in the second phase of the State Assembly election, on Thursday.

Talking to the media here on Wednesday, State CEO (Chief Electoral Officer) Nitin Khade said, "The COVID protocol that falls within our jurisdiction is the inside areas of polling stations. We've nothing to do with COVID protocol outside the polling stations and during poll campaigns. The SDR (State Disaster Response) authority and the NDR (National Disaster Response) authority are at the helm of affairs in such matters.

"We're ready for the second phase of the State Assembly polls. If anybody faces problems, he can contact us through the toll-free number 1950. We appeal to all the voters to come forward to cast their votes."

According to the CEO, besides the existing 8,998 polling stations, 1,594 additional polling stations are there for the second phase of poll. "The State has a total of 2.89 lakh of voters who are above 80 years and 1.38 lakh Divyang voters for whom the facility of postal voting has been made. However, a special arrangement for such voters who did not avail of the postal-voting facility has been also made."
