Shocking upsurge of Covid cases in Assam!

GUWAHATI: Shocking! Assam saw a sudden upsurge of 161 new Covid-19 cases on Monday, 90 in Kamrup (M) alone. Even more worrying is that the state medical fraternity conducted only 1,631 tests on Monday. The registered positivity rate is as high as 9.87 per cent.

In the past few days, many people reported cold and fever in the state. The number of new Covid-19 cases would have gone up had the medical fraternity conducted more tests.

According to the summary of Covid-19 cases from the State Health Department, the district-wise breakup of Covid-19 positive cases on July 4 was Kamrup (M) 90, Kamrup 24, Dibrugarh 11, Darrang 7, Nalbari 6, Hojai 5, Bongaigaon 5, Goalpara 4, Biswanath 4, Kokrajhar 2, Tinsukia 2 and Nagaon 1. There was no loss of life.

The total number of active Covid-19 cases on July 4 was 710. It is indeed a cause of concern that the health fraternity detected 518 Covid-19 cases from June 25 to July 4 in the Kamrup (M) district alone. The Kamrup district followed the metropolis registering 89 new Covid-19 cases during the period.

Till 6.30 pm on Tuesday, the state administered 4,67,13,636 doses of vaccine – 2,45,72,654 first doses, 2,14,20,386 second doses and 7,20,596 precaution doses.

The state has a stock of over 67 lakh doses of Covid-19 vaccines.
