Show-cause notice to Tea Estates under Apeejay Group

TEZPUR: Show cause notice has been issued to Sessa Tea Estate and Ghoiralli Tea Estate of the Apeejay Group by Dr Pradip Kumar Lahkar, Medical Inspector of Plantations, Tezpur.

The show cause notice was issued to Sessa Tea Estate and Ghoiralli Tea Estate for not providing adequate medical and paramedical staff. Official sources said that the Apeejay Group as a whole failed to address other grievances of the labourers.

Dr P K Lahkar also directed all tea garden managers to take initiative to reduce the maternal mortality rate and to take active part in wage compensation schemes. He further urged all garden managers to appoint required medical and paramedical staff, to appoint welfare officers and to engage welfare officers in their duties properly as per government notification.
