Guwahati: Even as the heat continued to cause considerable discomfort to people today, the IMD has predicted that hot and humid weather conditions will prevail over the state in the next 24 hours. The maximum temperature is, however, forecast to fall gradually in the subsequent days, with rainfall predicted in many places.

The hot and muggy weather in the state over the past few days has become a cause for concern, with normal life affected to some extent. A fall in the maximum temperature and possible rainfall in many places over the next few days will come as a welcome relief for the people.

On Sunday, the mercury touched 38.4°C in Guwahati, marking a departure of 6.1°C above the normal maximum temperature. The Upper Assam town of Dibrugarh, rather known for its pleasant weather, recorded a maximum temperature of 38.5°C, which is 7.8°C above the normal maximum temperature. Tezpur recorded a maximum temperature of 37.8°C, which is 6.4°C more than normal. North Lakhimpur recorded 38.5°C, which is 7.2°C above the normal maximum temperature. Silchar also experienced a hot day today, with a maximum temperature of 38.3°C, which is 5.7°C above the normal temperature.

The IMD’s Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) at Guwahati issued a special weather bulletin today at 12:30 PM, which says, “Hot & humid weather conditions over Assam during the next 24 hours. Due to prevailing mainly clear to partly cloudy sky conditions during daytime and high solar insolation, maximum temperatures are likely to be more than 35°C at a few places over Assam. Maximum temperatures are very likely to be above normal by 3°C to 5°C over Assam during the next 24 hours. There will be no large change in maximum temperature in the next 24 hours from the normal maximum temp. The maximum temperature is likely to fall gradually over the state in the subsequent days.”

Regarding the forecast from 8.30 AM on Monday to 8.30 AM on Tuesday, the RMC said, “Moderate rain is very likely to occur at many places over Assam.”

A warning issued by the centre stated, “Thunderstorms & lightning are very likely to occur at isolated places over Assam, and heavy rain is very likely to occur at isolated places over Assam.”

The forecast for the subsequent 24 hours says, “Moderate rain is very likely to occur at many places over Assam.” A warning for that period of time says, “Thunderstorms & lightning are very likely to occur at isolated places over Assam. Also, heavy rain is very likely to occur at isolated places over Assam.”
