GUWAHATI: Covid-19 positive cases spurted all of a sudden in the Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International (LGBI) Airport here since January 1, 2022, needing stricter Covid testing. Since January 1, 129 international and domestic air passengers tested Covid-19 positive in the airport.

According to statistics available with The Sentinel, 22 air passengers tested Covid-19 positive in the airport on January 1, twenty on January 2, twenty-one on January 3, twenty-nine on January 4, twenty-three on January 5 and 14 till 6 pm on January 6.

All international air passengers arriving at the airport have to undergo Covid-19 testing. Even if they do not test Covid-19 positive, they will have to remain in home isolation for seven days. The domestic air passengers who had both vaccine doses get exemption from any Covid testing if they are not symptomatic. However, domestic air passengers with single or no vaccine dose will undergo Covid-19 testing.

Children below ten years of age accompanying their parents or guardians get exemption from Covid-19 testing if their parents took both vaccine doses. However, if the parents of any child feel the need for Covid-19 testing for their ward, they can do so. The Health department has deployed squads of medicos in shifting duty in the international airport. The duration of a shift is ten hours.

The first flight arrives at the airport at 5 am, and the last flight at 1.10 am.
