Stay alert during Durga Puja: CM Sarbananda Sonowal

GUWAHATI: Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Tuesday asked the SPs (Superintendents of Police) of all districts to stay alert and prevent subversive activities by the anti-social elements during the Durga Puja festivities in the State. The DCs have been also asked to ensure observance of COVID-19 protocols by the puja committees.

Sonowal held a video conference with the Deputy Commissioners (DCs) and the SPs from his conference hall at Janata Bhawan and reviewed the law-and-order situation before the forthcoming Durga puja festivities, the COVID19 scenario and also the rate of Aadhaar enrolment in the districts among other issues.

Emphasizing that Aadhaar enrolment by the people has become very important for the beneficiaries to derive benefit of the Central government schemes, Sonowal asked the DCs to initiate steps to speed up the rate of Aadhaar enrolment as several districts have been performing very poorly in enrolment. He also directed the DCs to engage more private vendors to carry out the Aadhaar enrolment expediently. He also said vendors delaying the process must be removed so that cent percent enrolment can be achieved by the year end.

The CM also asked the DCs to ensure payment of bonuses to tea garden workers by the tea garden managements before the forthcoming Durga puja. He also directed the district administration concerned to hold meetings with the tea garden managements in this regard so that the tea community people can enjoy the puja festivities without difficulty.

Sonowal further issued instruction to the administration of the districts covered by the Kaziranga National Park for staying alert to prevent incidents of poaching during the festival time.
