GUWAHATI: The Pig Farmers' Association, Assam, has raised the demand for stopping the transportation of pigs from other states through Assam.
Addressing the media at Guwahati Press Club today, the association's general secretary Dipankar Saikia said, "Pigs being carried to other states of the Northeast need to be quarantined at Srirampur and Boxirhat check gates. However, this practice is not followed, and that leads to the spread of African swine fever to the pigs of Assam. We demand the authorities concerned stop the transportation of pigs from other states through Assam, at least for three months."
