GUWAHATI: Kamrup (Metro) Deputy Commissioner Pallav Gopal Jha on Wednesday issued a slew of Orders to the public with a view to containing the spurt in COVID-19 cases in the district.

The Deputy Commissioner directed all Government servants, including contractual and fixed-pay staff of the district to ensure that they are fully vaccinated, failing which they will not be allowed to attend office. Moreover, employees who are not fully vaccinated will have to avail, if available, or Extraordinary Leave for the duration of which they will not be paid salary.

In a separate Order, Jha fixed the maximum limit of gathering in open spaces at 200 vaccinated persons.

In the third Order related the district, the Deputy Commissioner directed that all educational institutions of the district, including schools, colleges and universities, will have to continue to provide "quality virtual options." He stated that schools will not hold offline/physical classes up to Class-VIII. Classes with physical presence will be allowed on alternate days for students of Class-IX and above, while classes with physical presence will be allowed with fully vaccinated students for Degree/Post-Graduate final year students of Engineering and Medical Colleges.

In the Fourth Order, Jha made wearing of face masks mandatory in all public places of the district and non-compliance will attract fines.

Jha directed shopkeepers to ensure that a minimum distance of six feet is maintained between customers and that only five customers are allowed inside their establishments at a time. Shopkeepers have also been asked to mandatorily keep sanitisers and hand washes in their shops for use by customers.
