Teamed Up To Rid Nation of Congress: BJP-AGP

GUWAHATI: Teaming up again after a brief spell of hiccups in the past few months, the BJP-AGP bonhomie is at its peak. While the State BJP president has appealed to his party workers and well wishers not to distinguish between AGP and BJP candidates while casting their votes in the Lok Sabha poll, AGP president Atul Bora has appealed to his party workers and supporters to ensure the transfer of AGP votes to its allies. The twin aim of the alliance is ridding Assam and the nation of the Congress and making Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the PMO for the second term in a raw.

Reciprocating BJP leaders’ goodwill visit to the AGP office on Thursday, a team of AGP leaders led by its president Atul Bora, working president Keshab Mahanta, senior leader Phani Bhushan Choudhury and a few others visited the BJP head office in Guwahati on Friday.

Addressing the media after their joint meeting, State BJP president Ranjit Kumar Dass said: “All well-wishers have hailed our alliance. Now we’re going to fight the Lok Sabha poll together. Apart from the BPF, we’ve the Sanmilita Gana Shakti, the Rabha Joutha Sangram Samiti and the Tiwa Jatiya Aikya Mancha with us. It’s a rainbow-like alliance. We’ve got into a huddle with the sole aim of making India a superpower and making Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the PMO (Prime Minister’s Office) for the second term in a row.”

Dass furher said: “Earlier we did expect 9-11 Lok Sabha seats. With the AGP joining us again, now we’re trying for all the 14 seats in the State. I request the 29 lakh BJP cadres, including page in-charges and district committee leaders, not to make any difference between AGP, BJP and BPF candidates. We fought the 2016 Assembly poll together with a big success. Now we’re going to fight this Lok Sabha poll together as a close-knit workforce.”

Speaking at the media briefing, Atul Bora said: “Our alliance is not new. We had alliance in 2001, 2009 and 2016 earlier. We’ve teamed up again in this Lok Sabha poll defeat our main enemy, the Congress. The AGP was formed to rid Assam of the Congress. Though we’ve some issue-based differences with the BJP in the past few months, they’ll be sorted out by sitting across the table. Our common agenda is to defeat the Congress.

After Modi becoming the Prime Minister, the Northeast and India as a whole developed. His predecessor Manmohan Singh was from Assam, but Assam failed to see any development during his period. Our twin aim is to defeat corrupt Congress and making Modi Prime Minister again. I appeal to my party leaders, cadres and well-wishers to ensure the transfer of AGP votes to our allies – the BJP and the BPF.”

Senior BJP leader and NEDA convener Himanta Biswa Sarma was also present at the joint meeting and the media briefing.
