Teenage Labourer Killed by Lightning at Alleged Illegal Sand Mining Site in Assam’s Mazbat

ORANG: A heartbreaking incident at Botabarigaon under the Mazbat area claimed the life of a teenage labourer after a lightning strike hit a tractor engaged in alleged illegal sand transportation along the Botiamari river on Thursday evening at 6 pm.

The deceased, identified as Anam Mahato, hailed from the Natun Line locality of Mazbat tea estate and was the son of Gangaram Mahato and Sumitra Mahato. Local sources said that the boy, reportedly underage, had been working as a labourer on a tractor carrying sand from the riverbank when sudden lightning struck the area.

Fellow workers and locals immediately informed the Mazbat police station and the victim's family members. He was rushed in a tea garden ambulance to Mahaliapara Model Hospital, but doctors declared him dead on arrival.
