GUWAHATI: The Crime Investigation Department (CID) has filed the charge sheet against 40 accused in connection with the illegal appointments in government schools in the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) using fake and forged Teachers' Eligibility Test (TET) certificates. The 1,175-page charge sheet listing 106 witnesses and 38 material objects was submitted before the Chief Judicial Magistrate, Kamrup (Metro) against the accused, including 33 teachers who got appointments based on fake TET-passed certificates and seven other middlemen and main racket leaders. The seven accused include a lecturer from a government-affiliated college in Nagaon, three government employees and many other persons. The CID filed the charge sheet within 60 days from the date of registration of the case (10/2021 u/s 120(B)/420/467/468/471 of IPC). The CID registered the case on October 3, 2021, at the directive of the Chief Minister.

"The CID conducted searches in Kamrup (Rural), Chirang, Udalguri, Nagaon and Hojai districts and arrested 33 teachers and 7 others. It interrogated the accused thoroughly and remanded them to judicial custody. It successfully opposed the bail petitions of the 40 accused now in jail. Investigation revealed that the teachers have fraudulently obtained fake TET-passed certificates from the main accused by paying lakhs of rupees through middlemen," the charge sheet mentioned.

During the investigation, the pay-in-slips used for depositing the money collected from the candidates were seized from various bank branches in the BTR and the Kamrup district. The handwriting on the pay-in slips matched with the specimen writings of the arrested middlemen and the money was trailed to the main racket leaders.

"Experts proved the TET-pass certificates submitted by these candidates for securing appointment as false and fabricated. The printing press that printed the fake certificates was identified. During the search at the printing press, a computer hard disk containing the images of fake TET-pass certificates, documents containing the list of TET candidates and blank TET certificates were seized. The printing press was sealed during the investigation. The entire conspiracy has been unearthed. The investigation is continuing to trace a few other accused who are absconding and for identifying similar other fraudulent appointments in the education department," the charge sheet further mentioned.
