GUWAHATI: Joint Commissioner of Guwahati Police Partha Sarathi Mahanta on Monday said that contrary to the popular concept that drugs flow into the northern and southern parts of the country from the Northeast, in reality there is also a reverse flow of some psychotropic substances from other states into this region.

Mahanta made this observation while informing the media about the seizure of 20,000 bottles of a cough syrup named 'Anrex' at Garchuk here today, which had come from Ambala in Punjab. The contraband cough syrup was seized from a truck (UP21BN 8713) which was bound for Manipur.

Two persons - Mugish (driver of the truck) and Naushad (handyman), both of Moradabad in Uttar Pradesh - have been arrested in this connection.

According to sources, although the MRP of each bottle of Anrex is Rs 150, it sells for around Rs 500 per bottle in the black market.
