Take immediate action, Dispur legislator urges Kamrup (M) DC

GUWAHATI: Dispur legislator Atul Bora, on Monday, alleged that thousands of people from the Dholpur and Gorukhuti areas of Darrang District in Sipajhar LAC (Legislative Assembly Constituency) are encroaching government lands in Sonapur daily.

Talking to The Sentinel, Bora added, "The flow of such people into Sonapur gained pace during the last few days. This is particularly so after the eviction drives in Darrang. Such incidents happened even before the recent eviction drives at Dholpur and Gorukhuti.

"Many among them have even built houses in areas of Sonapur like Parghuma, Kosutoli, and Beltila. They belong to a particular community, and even their citizenship is doubtful."

The Dispur legislator further said, "The ground reality has already assumed alarming proportions. The authorities concerned must initiate immediate eviction drives in those areas. Else, all the government lands under Sonapur and Hohora panchayats in Dimoria will be witnessing massive encroachments. Any delay in the eviction of these people from these areas will further complicate the matter."

MLA Atul Bora pointed out, "I have already sent a letter to the DC (Deputy Commissioner) of Kamrup (Metro) urging the administrative official — Biswajit Pegu — to launch eviction drives in those areas of Sonapur.
