Three litterateurs from Assam bag Sahitya Akademi prize for Translation 2021

GUWAHATI: Three litterateurs from Assam have been selected for the Sahitya Akademi Prize for Translation 2021.

According a communiqué from the Sahitya Akademi, the recipients include Pori Hiloidari for translating Mamang Dai's English novel 'The legends of Pensam' into Assamese as 'Danti Paror Manuh'; Indira Boro for translating Jayanti Gogoi's Assamese novel 'Hirimba' into Bodo with the same title; and Sanjib Upadhyaya for translating Late Homen Borgohain's famous Assamese novel 'Pita-Putra' into Nepali as 'Babu-Chhora'.

The prize carries an amount of Rs 50,000 and a copper plaque, which will presented to the recipients at a function to be held later this year.

A Correspondent adds from Jamugurihat: Dr Sanjib Upadhyaya is an assistant professor of the Zoology department of Tyagbir Hem Baruah College in the Sonipur district. Upadhyaya is a known textbook writer and author, besides being a researcher. He is a permanent resident of Gelapukhuri.

The college authority, Assam Nepali Sahitya Sabha, Assam Nepali Natya Sammelan, Freedom Fighter Chabilal Upadhyaya Heritage Committee, Assam Gorkha Sammelan and All Assam Gorkha Students' Union congratulated Upadhyaya for his achievement.
