GUWAHATI: Dissidence is growing in the BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) after the party announced its candidates for various Assembly seats across the State. A sense of displeasure, accompanied by desertion, is gathering steam in the party concerning poll candidatures.

The BJP named three more candidates on Monday. While Milan Das has been named for Hailakandi LAC (Legislative Assembly Constituency), Paramananda Rajbongshi has been named for Sipajhar and Ramakrishna Ghosh for Hojai. Immediately after the announcement of the list, there has been a kneejerk reaction with Hojai MLA Shiladitya Deb announcing that he is going to quit the party on Thursday. He also made it clear that he will spell out his options as to whether he would fight the forthcoming polls or not only after tendering his resignation.

"For the political interest of a few leaders I've been kicked out of the party. My other guilt is that I'm vocal on 'Hinduvta'. I have many things to say. But I would like to quit the party first," added Dev.

Already Silchar MLA Dilip Paul made his decision for fighting the polls as an Independent candidate from Silchar after he was denied ticket by the party. Minister Sum Ronghang is also going to fight the election from Diphu on a Congress ticket after the BJP denied him the party ticket.

The seat-sharing arrangement reached among the coalition partners has also brought much squabbling among a section of aggrieved leaders and workers in the party. As many as 11 sitting MLAs haven't got party tickets. The tension within the party in Silchar has led Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma rush to Silchar last evening. Veteran BJP leader Kabindra Purkayastha is upset for the party denying ticket to this son.

How the party leadership is going to control the situation is something to watch out for.
