Time has come to change mindset: CM Himanta Biswa Sarma

 Tata Tech to invest Rs 2,390 cr in state polytechnics & ITIs; MOA signed

GUWAHATI: Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that "the time has come to change our mindset. For our old mindset, we cannot make the next generation suffer".

The Chief Minister said this after the State Skill Development Department and Tata Technologies Ltd (TTL) had signed an MOA (Memorandum of Agreement) here today.

The Chief Minister said, "The MOA aims at making the youth of the state equipped with the skill set needed for the fourth industrial revolution (industry 4.0). Under this agreement, TTL will impart training to the students of 34 polytechnics and 43 ITIs (Industrial Training Institutes) of the state to make them cope with industry 4.0. TTL will invest Rs 2,390 crore, and the State Government will invest around Rs 800 crore in cash and kind in this skill-honing venture."

The Chief Minister said, "We head forward with a broader mindset. Against such a backdrop, we need to shed the regional mindset to make way for a broader national mindset. Under this agreement, TTL will equip 15,000-20,000 youths of the state annually with the skill set for their suitable placements in industry 4.0. We need to provide a space measuring 12,000 sq ft in every polytechnic and ITI to TTL for imparting the training. Our target is May 10, 2023, to start this skill-honing training. To eliminate bureaucratic hurdles in this venture, I will have to monitor the entire process myself. I thank TTL Chairman S Ramadurai for his total support for this venture. He is a real friend of Assam."

Principal Secretary, Department of Skill Development B Kalyan Chakravarthy and TTL CEO-cum-MD Warren Harris signed the agreement.

TTL Chairman S Ramadurai said, "It's a great event for Assam and the Northeast. Digitalization and automation are the new norms in the industry sector these days. Our training will be gender-neutral. The Northeast has great potential for sustainable growth. Tata Group always accords priority to the Northeast."
