GUWAHATI: The ULFA-I extended its ceasefire with the government forces for another three months with effect from Sunday (November 14).

In a statement issued to the media today, ULFA-I president General Paresh Asom said that the ULFA-I extended the ceasefire yet again in the interest of the people of Assam. During these three months, the ULFA-I will cease all armed activities.

After taking oath on May 10, 2021, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had appealed to the ULFA-I to sit across the negotiation table with the government.

And on May 14 this year, the ULFA-I reciprocated the call of the Chief Minister by announcing a ceasefire for three months.

The ULFA-I extended its ceasefire with the government forces for three months on August 14. Today's is the second such extension of ceasefire by the outfit during the BJP-led coalition's second term at Dispur.
