KOKRAJHAR: Massive protest programmes were seen in various places in the BTR on Tuesday to protest the filing of a PIL at the Gauhati High Court challenging some clauses of the BTR Accord by a group of people, including former MP Sansuma Khunggur Bwiswmuthiary, ex-minister Chandan Brahma, ex-Deputy Chief of BTC Kampa Borgoyari and others.

The protesters burnt the effigies of the main petitioners and shouted slogans against them, and warned to withdraw the petition.

In the Kokrajhar town, several conscious and peace-loving citizens, including ABSU activists and other organizations, took to the streets and staged a protest against the PIL. The protestors burnt the effigies of former MP SK Bwiswmuthiary, ex-minister Chandan Brahma, ex-deputy chief of BTC Kampa Borgoyari, Bodo Sahitya Sabha (BSS) vice president Dinanath Basumatary, Sahitya Akademi award winner Dr Mangalsingh Hazoary and president of Kokrajhar district BPF Derhasat Basumatary.

Reacting to the PIL, ABSU leader Khampa Basumatary said that a section of former leaders had been trying to destabilize the implementation of the BTR clauses for their political interests. He said the petitioners, under the influence of BPF, had collected signatures from various quarters, including the public who were not aware of filing PIL to challenge clauses of the BTR accord.

Basumatary said the process of inclusion of villages of Sonitpur and Biswanath districts were going on with other vital clauses, including the withdrawal of cases against the NDFB, release of NDFB founder and accord signatory Ranjan Daimary, but the sudden filing of PIL has proved that they never wanted the implementation of BTR accord clauses. He asked the petitioners to withdraw the PIL immediately failing which the 32 lakh peace-loving citizens of the BTR would reply to them and also warned that more agitations would follow democratically in the days to come.
