GUWAHATI: The Director of Higher Education (DHE) has asked all state universities and government/provincialized colleges of Assam to expeditiously implement the e-office concept of the state government and hence refrain from sending hard copy (paper) correspondence to the directorate from October 15.

In a recent communication, the DHE stated that since the state government has decided to implement the e-office system in all departments, the Directorate of Higher Education will follow suit 'soon' and process files and documents using e-office.

"…Your esteemed university/college is requested to take necessary steps/action and communicate all your correspondence through e-mail by sending legible soft copy (scanned PDF) from October 15, 2022," the DHE stated in his letter.

An official of the department told The Sentinel that there are various types of correspondence and exchange of documents between the universities/colleges and the directorate. These pertain to academic issues as also service matters of teaching and non-teaching employees. In many cases, employees of the universities/colleges have to frequently visit the DHE's office here for follow-up work related to the hard copy files.

The sources said that from October 16 onwards, no hard copy file will be accepted by the DHE's office and all work will be done via the e-mail address 'directorhigherassam123@gmail.com'.

It may be mentioned that the state government is taking several strategic initiatives to bring about transparency, effectiveness and openness in governance. The e-office system is being introduced with a view to transforming the functioning of the government into a more efficient mode.
