GUWAHATI: With just two days left for publication of the final NRC (National Register of Citizens), the State government has intensified vigil and increased security at the 14 sensitive districts as well as the NRC State Coordinator’s HQ at Bhangagarh here, all offices of the DCs, SDOs (Civil), and Revenue Circles besides the 2,500 Sewa Kendras.

Meanwhile, personnel of the Assam Police and the CAPF (Central Armed Police Force) have been already deployed at all the districts. Additional deployment has been made in the 14 sensitive districts where comparatively less number of enrollment among the applicants was reported during the publication of the complete draft NRC on July 30, 2018.

Talking to The Sentinel, a senior official of the Home and Political Department said, “As per the government’s security plan, the necessary instructions have been given. Security personnel of the Assam Police and the CAPF have been deployed at the significant places as preventive measures. However, we expect that the post-publication phase of the NRC will be peaceful across the State.”
