Guwahati: Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that voters rejected dynasty and caste politics. Voters gave their mandate is for development.

The Chief Minister said this at Atal Bihari Vajpayee Bhawan here today. Talking to the media, he said, "The results of the Assembly elections make it crystal clear that the voters rejected family-centric and caste-centric politics. Voters gave their mandate for the politics of development. I feel dynasty and caste politics will meet their dead-end in the next five years. Voters will take part in the election for development.

"Prime Minister Narendra Modi appealed to the voters to rise to the occasion to defeat caste and community politics to vote for development. In the recent elections, the people of the country gave thumbs up to the Prime Minister's plea."

The Chief Minister said, "Congress has no future. It will be a pale shadow of its former self by 2026. Their presence will be in a few districts or some small geographical pockets.

"The Congress faced a debacle in Punjab. It failed to have its traditional grip in Uttarakhand. Their performance in Manipur and Goa is also below par. People don't see Congress as an alternative to the BJP. The party is on a spree of losing polls. They faced defeats in the Lok Sabha and Assembly polls, and now they are facing debacle in municipal board and panchayat polls."

The Chief Minister expressed gratitude to the people of Majuli for the win of BJP candidate Bhuban Gam with a huge margin. "Efforts for the development of Majuli will continue," he added.

On the Rajya Sabha poll in the state, the Chief Minister said, "The ruling alliance is short of only one vote to clinch both the seats. It is up to the Opposition to field candidates in such a situation."
