LAKHIMPUR: “It’s time we took the pledge once again to fight for our existence. We must ensure that none can threaten the age-old peace, fraternity, solidarity and communal harmony existing among us. We won’t bow down to threats and unethical, unconstitutional politics that are trying to drive wedges among us. We’ll die rather than part with our land (Tez Dim, Desh Nidiu),” asserted AASU (All Assam Students’ Union) general secretary Lurinjyoti Gogoi while addressing the gathering at Jonai during the second-day session of the students’ organization on Thursday. He pointed out that “the State is facing such situations due to some sensitive issues.”

The AASU leaders also paid tributes to the martyrs of the Assam Agitation against foreigners that took place in the eighth decade of the last century in order to protect the State and the Assamese community by securing the interests of the indigenous people.

The second day agenda of the event on Thursday began with the unfurling of the organizational flag by AASU president Dipanka Kumar Nath. Prior to that, the dignitaries of the largest students’ organization of the State were accorded a warm welcome at Ruksin. Then they were escorted to the Taburam Taid Samanway Kshetra. After hoisting the flag there, the AASU president laid stress on accelerating the activities of the organization in the greater interest of the State. He appealed to the members to dedicate and devote themselves to the organization to achieve its goal.

A colourful cultural procession with the theme of ‘Samanway’ was brought out in Jonai town (integration). Prior to flagging off the event, AASU chief adviser Dr Samujjal Bhattacharya laid emphasis on establishing harmony among all the communities of the State for peace and prosperity.
