CORRESPONDENT DHUBRI:

West Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankar's Visits to Dhubri Camp: West Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankar visited the Ronpangli camp in Dhubri district in Assam and interacted with the inmates who had to flee Coochbehar in the post-poll violence. The Governor assured the inmates of proper security of their lives and property.

The Governor arrived in Dhurbi by helicopter and immediately went to the camp. The inmates broke down in tears and urged the Governor to take them back to their homes at the earliest. The inmates are staying in five different camps in Dhubri district, bordering Coochbehar district.

Dhubri Deputy Commissioner Deba Kumar Kalita, Dhubri Superintendent of Police Anand Mishra, BJP's Coochbehar MP Nishith Pranamanik, BJP's Tufanganj MLA Malati Rabha Roy were also there.

Talking to media persons, Governor Dhankar expressed resentment over post-poll and post-result violence and said that it was very unfortunate. "This is not accepted in democracy," he said.

"We are going to take foolproof action so that all the inmates can return to their homes. I especially thank the Dhubri District Administration and police for their quick response in providing food and shelter to people who fled West Bengal," the Governor said.

Nearly 1,200 people had to leave West Bengal after the poll result on May 2.
