GUWAHATI: Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma spelt out what the State government would do with the paper mill assets it took over from the liquidator at Rs 310 crore.

The Chief Minister said, "Assam needs a paper mill. We want to set up one with the assets of the Cachar Paper Mill, but not at the Government level. It may be a joint venture."

On the landed property of the Jagiroad Paper Mill, the Chief Minister said, "We will include this land in the capital area expansion project of the government. Headquarters of some departments will be at Jagiroad. An eight-lane superhighway will connect Guwahati and Jagiroad. Jagiroad, Palasbari and Sualkuchi are the three vertices in the capital expansion plan. The initial work is underway. We request the ex-employees of the paper mill to vacate the official quarters they have been occupying. We can dispose of the obsolete paper machinery only when the ex-employees vacate the complex."
