GUWAHATI: The post-Pahalgam arrests in Assam on the 'charge of treason' continue unabated, with the number of such arrests reaching ten as of now.

Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma has warned that whoever supports Pakistan directly or indirectly, the state government will apply the National Security Act (NSA) against them.  The crackdown on those defending Pakistan in the Pahalgam attack began with the arrest of AIUDF MLA Aminul Islam. Besides the five arrested yesterday, the police arrested four more since last night.

The four arrested are Zarit Ali from Barpeta, Anil Bania from Biswanath, Md. Mustaq Ahmed from Sribhumi, and Imran Hussain Borbhuyan from Cachar.

The Chief Minister said, "India and Pakistan are arch rivals. The ways of thinking of India and Pakistan meet nowhere. The government will arrest anyone who will support Pakistan directly or indirectly on the 'charge of treason'. We have been delving deep into the social media posts and media reports and arresting their senders when we find elements of an anti-India and pro-Pakistan stance in them."

The Chief Minister also appealed to the people to inform the local police or authorities if they find any pro-Pakistan social media posts and media reports. "Strict action is underway against those attempting to justify the Pahalgam attack. So far, ten individuals have been arrested. Everyone is urged to remain vigilant and immediately report any such incidents to local authorities, without delay."
