Will extend 20 police services through portal or App: CM Himanta Biswa Sarma

GUWAHATI: Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that the State Government wants to extend around 20 police services to the public through a portal or an App. "This will enable people to get some of their services done without visiting the police station," he said.

The Chief Minister said this after reviewing different aspects of the Assam Police at the Assam Police Headquarters today. He said, "The government has decided to update the 112 services (an emergency response support system) to get cooperation and support from the public."

On government services to the next of kin of Assam Police personnel who lost their lives at the hands of militants, the Chief Minister said, "The government has decided to provide government jobs to around 300 next of kin of martyred police personnel on January 25, 2023."

The Chief Minister also reviewed the CCTV camera installation project in Guwahati. He said, "We have decided to complete the project before the Durga Puja. Not only the Government, but the public will also install CCTV cameras. If the Government and the public work together, over 50,000 CCTVs will be installed in Guwahati. From now, CCTV camera is mandatory for every flat in Guwahati. Every Government or private establishment engaging more than five employees will have to install CCTVs facing the road. Houses where lone-aged parents stay and houses where children stay with caretakers as their parents working in government offices should have CCTV cameras installed. The CCTVs should store the footage for at least 30 days. We will enact an Act on this in the next Assembly session. We will slowly introduce CCTV cameras that can read faces even under helmets."

The Chief Minister said that his government would appoint around 5,000 youths in the Assam Police and the Forest Department by 10th May and keep the promise of giving jobs to one lakh youths of the state.

The Chief Minister also reviewed the cases registered in 2022 and their convictions.
