Guwahati: Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma said that the state government would move the Supreme Court of India against the order of the Gauhati High Court on the cash-for-job scam in the Assam Public Service Commission (APSC).
The Gauhati High Court directed the state government to roll back the order regarding the dismissal of the officials from service in the APSC cash-for-jobs scam. The reinstatement is supposed to be applicable for the officials who completed their probationary period, the high court said in its order.
Speaking to the media here today, the Chief Minister said, "I haven't seen the order as yet. I've seen the report in the media. If it is true, it's unfortunate. It's painful for us. At a time when the state government has been selecting candidates in a transparent way based on merit, such an order from the high court has frustrated us. And hence, we will move the Supreme Court."
The Chief Minister said that the state government would leave no stone unturned to ensure that those who had been appointed through unfair means in the APSC were not reinstated.
The state government had earlier discharged a number of officers from the ACS, APS and allied services cadre. After their discharge from service, the officers had moved the HC challenging their dismissal order. However, a single-judge bench had refused to provide them relief in the matter. Later, the officials concerned took their appeal to a division bench of the HC. After several hearings, the division bench awarded them relief in their case against the state government and ordered their re-appointment within 50 days from the date of the order.
