BAKSA: A woman and her nine-year-old daughter, who went missing from Ramechuburi village under Tamulpur Police Station in the district of Baksa, were rescued from Bihar early on Friday. The mother and daughter were abducted from village Ramechuburi of Tamulpur subdivision by a man from South Salmara of Dhubri district. The man identified himself as Zahirul Islam. According to allegations, the man abducted the mother-daughter on June 22 and sold them in Premnagar under Kishanganj Police Station in Bahdurganj district in Bihar.

After his wife and daughter went missing, Bhubaneswar Das, the woman's husband, lodge an FIR at Tamulpur Police Station.

A team of Tamulpur police, led by SDPO Rupajyoti Kalita and SI Nipon Gogoi arrested the accused from Guwahati on Thursday evening. The police team reached Bihar without delay along with the accused Zahirul. Based on his statement, the mother and daughter were rescued on Friday.

When Zahirul was taken to Ramechuburi village for interrogation, he attempted to flee from police custody by snatching the arms of a police officer, prompting the officers in the police team to shoot him on his legs. He sustained three bullet injuries. The police took him to Mushalpur for treatment. After primary treatment, he was later admitted to the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH).
