GUWAHATI: The Xatra Commission has readied an interim report on the encroachment of xatra lands in the state. According to sources, the Xatra Commission will submit it to Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma shortly.

The content of the report is still a secret. Sources, however, claim that the commission has found encroachment of lands of some xatras during its field visit.

The State government formed the three-member Xatra Commission headed by AGP MLA Pradip Hazarika in December last year. The other two members of the commission are BJP MLAs Rupak Sarma and Mrinal Saikia. The government asked the Xatra Commission to study the landed property of xatras, landed property under encroachment and the land available with each of the xatras.

The commission has so far visited xatras in ten districts and readied the interim report based on the findings in the ten districts.

The study of xatra land is the first of its kind in the state. The Xatra Commission will visit the other districts and submit the final report to the Chief Minister later.
