AGARTALA: At least six persons sustained injuries when two groups of people clashed at Kamalpur over the implementation of restrictions in the newly declared containment zones in Dhalai district of Tripura, which has turned out to be a coronavirus hotspot in the State.

The tension has been subsided after the intervention of Food Minister Manoj Deb who hails from the sub-division and the Sub-divisional Police Officer Sabyasachi Debnath. Two cases have been filed by two sides accusing each other.

The tension started immediately after the sub-division was declared a containment zone after some of the BSF jawans deployed in the sub-division were found to be a coronavirus positive.

As soon as the declaration came, people started to create a barricade in their areas preventing entry. The problem started when the people of Goalmara area under Mohonpur village created a barricade and refused to allow the residents of Malaya village to pass through their village.

People of both the villages started gathering beside the barricade and when one side tried to remove it, the other side objected and then things took a violent turn. In the scuffle, both sides used sticks and other weapons, injuring three persons of each side. Receiving the information, minister Manoj Deb and the SDPO rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control.

It is learned that in some other villages also people created barricades while many others are opposing it. However, the minister is reportedly contacting every spot and trying to bring the situation under control.
