Strengthen rural economy to defeat coronavirus: Jishnu Debbarma

AGARTALA: Tripura Deputy Chief Minister Jishnu Debbarman has stressed upon ensuring work under MGNREGA project in every village as the fight against coronavirus will not see success if the rural economy remains weak. He said all other government projects also should be activated so that rural people get work and the production system continues.

He visited the Binapani area under Jirania block on Sunday to have an on the ground experience of how the government projects and schemes are being implemented. He said Prime Minister Narendra Modi also stressed on strengthening the rural economy and this year more fund has been allotted in the budget for rural development.

He specially urged the womenfolk to involve themselves to such activities that can earn additional income for the family and told them to form more self-help groups. "Women empowerment is the need of the hour", he said.

He said the government has taken large scale development encompassing both urban and rural areas. But the villages are getting priority as the majority of the people reside there and it is the backbone of our economy. Susanta Choudhury, local MLA, assured people that there will be no shortage of food so long the lockdown continues and at the same time urged the people to involve them in productive works so that they can become self-sufficient.
