Tripura BJP to give youths smartphones under 'Mukhyomantri Yuba Jogajog Yojana'

AGARTALA: In a significant move to fulfill one of the pre-poll commitments of the BJP, Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb has launched an online portal 'Mukhyomantri Yuba Jogajog Yojana' (Chief Minister's Youth Connectivity Programme) under which smartphones will be given to youths.

Launching the programme, the Chief Minister said, "Keeping parity with the pre-electoral promise of BJP, the State government launched the 'Mukhyomantri Yuba Jogajog Yojana' to provide smartphones to altogether 14,608 students of 22 degree colleges, Tripura University, MBB University, AGMC, NIT, TIT, Government Law College, Government Music College, RIPSAT, Teacher Training College and 38 other higher educational institutions across the State.

The State is going to provide Rs 5000 as financial assistance to every student under the scheme for which the government will have to spend Rs 7.30 crores.

The applicants (students) will have to apply on the following portal: https://scholarships.gov.in from May 6 to June 6. The applications will be scrutinized from May 15 to June 15. The money will be deposited in the bank accounts of applicants from July 1-15 following a State-level scrutiny which is scheduled to be carried out from May 22 to June 30.

Additional Chief Secretary SK Rakesh, Secretary (Education) Saumya Gupta and Secretary (Information Technology) Tanusree Debbarma was present in the programme.
