572nd Birth Anniversary Celebrations of Mahapurush Sankardev at Jorhat

Assam is celebrating the 572nd birth anniversary of Mahapurush Srimanta Sankardev, the Vaishnavite Saint of Assam. Prayers (Naam Prasanga) was held at the historic Naam Ghar (Vaishnavite Temple) set up by Srimanta Sankardev's principle disciple Mahapurush Madhabdev at Jorhat's Dhekiakhowa Bor Naam Ghar. The Saint's birth anniversary would be marked by day long celebrations at the Naam Ghar. But the celebrations would not be large scale as earlier due to the current COVID situation. The celebrations were in keeping with the preachings and traditions initiated by Sri Sankardev. The day began with Usha Kirtan, Bhagawat Bhraman and Diha Naam was performed. Prayers were offered for the well being of every living soul and betterment of humankind.
