AASU Points Finger at Govt; says OIL lacks safety expertise

AASU blames Central and State government for the massive fire that broke out at the Baghjan oil field of Oil India in Tinsukia. AASU General Secretary Lurinjyoti Gogoi said that the government and the authorities of Oil India Limited let this happen as they did not take necessary steps at the right time. The AASU leader accused OIL of not having any proper R&D facility or safety and security management team in place. There was a gas blow out on May 27 and since then for the past fortnight gas has been spewing from the well and yesterday afternoon fire broke out. The gas leak has put at risk the entire biodiversity and lives of thousands of people. The Bhagjan oil well is only a kilometre away from Maguri-Motapung wetland and barely few kilometres away from the Dibru-Saikhowa National Park.
