Elephant Calf Rescued From a Kitchen in Assam's Chirang

A baby elephant was rescued from an empty kitchen in Khungkrajhara. Forest officials suspect that the calf was separated from the herd. It then joined a herd of cows grazing in nearby paddy fields and followed them to the property while owners remained unaware. The incident happened in the Chirang district, near the MNP. Officials from the Kuklung forest division rushed in for rescue. It was later handed over to officials of Banhbari Range. Encroachment of forest land has caused a food crisis for wild animals. Elephants often venture out of protected areas in the state.
