Fourth Wave of Floods hit Dhemaji, Inundates 8 Villages

The latest wave of floods, hitting in the Assamese 'Bhado' month, has swamped 8 villages in Jonai in Dhemaji district. This is the fourth wave of floods to hit the Jonai area this year. Beki river, flowing through Dhemaji, overflowed its banks and flooded a huge area, affecting the lives of thousands of people in more than 8 villages.

Heavy rains overnight caused water level in the Beki river to rise and flood a large area from around 6 AM today, leading to loss of livestock like pigs and standing crops in acres upon acres of agricultural land.

With roads and people's houses flooded, they are now stranded in their homes or on higher ground. There is dearth of food and drinking water, and the human as well as animal populations are equally affected.
