Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday announced a slew of new initiatives giving respite to lakhs of families in the state. These include 6 lakh new beneficiries of the Orunodoi Scheme, ration cards for 10 lakh more families. These are apart from the medical insurence upto Rs 5 lakh for the ration card holders. Dr Sarma announced these as he distributed sanction letters for one-time assistance of Rs 25,000 to 11,896 widows across state at a function in Tezpur. All woman beneficiaries aged 18 to 45 years whose husbands expired on or after April 1, 2019 received the one-time assistance. He further handed over cheques of Rs 1 lakh to 308 families who lost their homes to floods this year.
