NASA’s Artemis 1 Mission Achieves Objectives

Artemis 1 is NASA's ongoing uncrewed Moon-orbiting mission. First major spaceflight of NASA's Artemis program. Successfully launched from Kennedy Space Center on Nov 16, 2022. Main objective is to test the Orion spacecraft, especially its heat shield in preparation for subsequent Artemis missions. Seeking to re-establish a human presence on the Moon and demonstrate technologies and business approaches needed for future studies, including exploration of Mars.

Splashdown in the Pacific Ocean scheduled for Dec 11. The Orion spacecraft, which is at the core of NASA's historic Artemis I mission. reached its farthest distance from Earth on Nov 28 afternoon shattering the record for the maximum distance a spacecraft designed to carry humans has ever travelled. Soon a lunar landing by astronauts could follow in 2025. Astronauts last visited the moon 50 years ago during Apollo 17
