Odisha: Elephant Herd Gets ‘drunk’, Forest Officials Beat Drums To Wake Them Up

Bizarre, unprecedented incident in Odisha's Keonjhar district. Herd of elephants drink up fermented water kept in pots to prepare country liquor. Villagers in Keonjhar district reportedly saw the herd asleep. The herd was asleep near the place where mahua flowers were kept in water . When villagers went to the forest, they found that all the pots were broken and the fermented water was missing. The herd of elephants was in deep sleep after consuming the fermented water, according to the villagers

'Liquor was unprocessed. Tried to wake them up but failed. Forest Dept was then informed'. Total of 24 elephants consumed the fermented water, and slept for hours. Forest Dept officials had a hard time to wake up the elephants. They beat drums to wake the herd up. After that, the elephants went deep inside the forest
