Orunodoi Scheme: Panchayat Officials Asking for Money?

Noisy scenes and heated arguments were seen outside Panchayat office at Dakorghat in Nagaon. Residents of the area alleged corruption in the identification of beneficiaries under the Orunadoi scheme of the Assam government. Locals alleged that names of poor, needy people have been left out and names of well to do people have been included in the list. The state government has promised a monthly assistance of Rs 830 to every poor family (certain parametres have to be fulfilled) under the scheme. Allegations have also been levelled against Panchayat office bearers of taking money in lieu of getting peoples' names included in the list of beneficiaries for the scheme.
