Rain Water Floods Barpeta Road

Incessant rain over the past few days have resulted in floods in several areas of the business town of Barpeta Road. Several roads have been flooded. One major reason for flooding is that the main outlet for rain water, Mara Manas river has been clocked by construction and encroachments. The town also lacks proper drainage system. With several roads and homes under water, it is the common man who is bearing the brunt. Locals have demanded removal of encroachments and demolition of building to clear up the water passage. They have also asked the authorities to look into the issue of drainage system.
