Rare Species Of Monkeys Seized Near Assam Mizoram Border

Nine rare species of monkeys were seized by Cachar Police under Dholai Thana from an area near Assam-Mizoram border on Monday.

According to Cachar SP Numal Mahatta the monkeys were seized during a naka checking.

The monkeys were smuggled from countries in Latin America, Madagascar, Columbia and Indonesia to India and other countries via Myanmar into Mizoram.

Assam CM Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma has already instructed the police to apprehend those who are involved in the racket.

Red faced spider monkey and lemur were among the seized species.

The monkeys were later shifted shifted to the Assam State Zoo cum Botanical Garden after proper check-ups.
