Clashes broke out in Manipur on May 3 following the tribal solidarity march organised in the hill districts to protest against the Meitei community’s demand for Scheduled Tribe (ST) status. At least 70 people were killed in the clashes. Till Monday, officials in Mizoram said, a total of 6,520 residents from Manipur, belonging mainly to the Chin, Kuki and Mizo communities, have been lodged at temporary relief camps across six districts in the state.

April 27: A day before Biren Singh's visit to Churachandpur, the chief minister was scheduled to inaugurate a gym was set on fire.

April 28: Section 144 was imposed along with a five-day suspension of internet services. Protesters and security forces clashed, with police using tear gas shells to disperse the mob. According to sources, police forces were not removed from the district despite the Indigenous Tribal Leaders Forum (ITLF) agreeing to withdraw the protest. A mob gathered in the Tuibong Bazar area and resorted to burning tyres on the roads.

May 3: Thousands turned up for the Tribal Solidarity March called by the All Tribal Students Union of Manipur (ATSUM) to protest against the inclusion of Meiteis in the ST category. More than 60,000 people are estimated to have attended the rally. Violence erupted during the rally in the Torbung area of Churachandpur. Nearly 11 civilians were reported injured, with two others dying from bullet wounds in Saikul, Kangpokpi district. As Meiteis and protesters (tribals) clashed on the streets, state security forces rushed to the scene and prohibitory orders were imposed in eight districts.

May 4: Fresh incidents of violence in Imphal. More vandalism, destruction of properties and clashes between Meiteis and tribal’s. The Rapid Action Force was deployed along with the Army, CRPF, Assam Rifles and state police to contain violence. On the same day, the government issued a shoot at sight order in "extreme cases .

May 5- May 6: The influx of displaced residents from violence-hit Manipur seeking shelter in neighboring Mizoram and Assam continued. 7,900 people have fled to the two northeastern states following ethnic clashes.

May 8-May 9: Students from Manipur fleds to neighboring state Assam

May 26: curfew was relaxed in both East and West Imphal districts of Manipur.

May 30: Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Amit Shah visits Manipur.

May 30: Amit Shah had wide ranging discussions with civil society organisations, group of prominent personalities, intellectuals, retired Army officers and civil servants in Imphal Home Minister reviewed security situation with senior officials of Manipur Police, CAPFs and the Indian Army

May 30: Union Home Minister visited Churachandpur and held a meeting with prominent personalities and delegation of the Civil Society Organisations Union Home Minister Shri Amit Shah held an all-party meeting in Imphal

May 31: Union Home Minister visited Moreh and Kangpokpi areas of Manipur. He interacted with various local groups in Moreh followed by meeting with Civil Society Organisations in Kangpokpi.
