Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman while inaugurating the three-day celebrations of the 400th birth anniversary of Lachit Barphukan organised centrally at New Delhi’s Vigyan Bhawan said that it is important for every Indian to know about Lachit Barphukan's indomitable display of valour and courage, along with strategy, on the battlefield.

The Assam Cabinet which met in New Delhi on Wednesday condemned the firing incident in Mukroh firing along the Assam- Meghalaya border and expressed its deepest sympathy to the bereaved family members, besides directing the Home Department to prepare an SOP on using lethal weapons in vulnerable situations along inter-state border areas.

Just as the situation is still tensed along the Assam-Meghalaya border after the Mukroh firing, Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma and his cabinet colleagues visited the Mukroh village and met the next of kin of the five villagers killed in police firing and handed over ex-gratia of Rs. 5 lakh to the next of kin of each of the five deceased villagers.
