Union Home Minister Amit Shah while addressing the 400th birth anniversary celebrations of Lachit Borphukan said that legendary Ahom general protected the culture & identity of the North-East from being overrun by Mughal culture and civilization.

A Meghalaya Cabinet delegation led by CM Conrad Sangma met Union Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi on Thursday and apprised him of the situation arising out the incident on the inter-state border in Karbi Anglong that left six people dead, while requesting him to start a CBI inquiry into the matter.

The primary (government & provincialized) schools of the state have been directed by the Department of School Education to pay their pending electricity bills from the Annual School Grant by Nov 30 in the wake of the Assam Power Distribution Company Limited’s appeal to the Department to ensure that the said schools pay their pending bills within that deadline.

A 35-year-old man has been arrested on the charge of attempting to sexually assault a 16-year-old girl at knifepoint in Sangey Laden area of Arunachal Pradesh's capital Itanagar. The man was drunk and dragged her when she did not cooperate, the police said.
