GOI Announces Increase in Rates For Obtaining Renewal Registration For Old Vehicles From April 2022

1. The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways have announced the new prices of the renewal of fitness certificates for cars that are more than 15 years old and heavy vehicles. 1. The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways have announced the new prices of the renewal of fitness certificates for cars that are more than 15 years old and heavy vehicles. The new prices will be effective from April 2022.

2. The fee of the registration renewal for a 15-year-old car will be increased to Rs. 5000, against the current fee of Rs. 600.

3. The fee of the registration renewal for old bikes will be increased to Rs. 1000, against the current fee of Rs. 300.

4. The renewal fee for fitness certificate for a public bus or a truck will cost Rs. 12,500. The current fee is Rs. 1500.

5. Private vehicles will be required to pay a fine of Rs. 300 every month for any delay in the renewal registration. Similarly, commercial vehicles will be required to pay a fine of Rs. 500 for the same. Also, a fine of Rs. 50 per day will be levied on commercial vehicles for any delay in obtaining the fitness certificate.

6. After the completion of fifteen years, it is mandatory for private vehicles owners to renew the registration every 5 years.

7. Commercial vehicle owners need to renew their fitness certificate every year after completion of 8 years.

8. The government has taken this step with an aim to discourage vehicle owners from using old cars for safety purposes.
