MUMBAI: Mumbai witnessed another tragedy on Saturday, as fire broke out in a five-storeyed building in the city's Prabhadevi area.

The incident happened just a day after a massive fire broke out at Bhandup's Dreams Mall in Mumbai where a hospital was situated within the mall on the intervening night of Thursday and Friday.

As per reports, the fire broke out in a five-storeyed building in Mumbai's Prabhadevi area on Saturday morning, a fire brigade official said.

Reportedly, the incident took place in the basement of Gammon House, a commercial building on Veer Sarvarkar road at around 6 am.

Water tankers and fire fighters were rushed to the spot. Even though there were no reports of casualty, the cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained.

While the state was yet to recuperate from yesterday's tragedy, it faced another unfortunate event today.

In yesterday's incident, ten people lost their lives in the tragedy. The patients were admitted in the hospital which is a temporary Covid-19 facility.

The patients were evacuated as the smoke spread into Sunrise Hospital. Fire tenders were immediately rushed to the Hospital. Reportedly, more than 70 Covid patients were admitted in the hospital and some of them were under ventilators. Officials have not yet confirmed the cause of the fire.

Meanwhile, the hospital issued a statement according to which no casualties were reported but later some patients were found missing.

Taking heed of the situation Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray visited the hospital, and ordered an inquiry into the matter. He further announced a compensation of Rs 5 lakh for the next kin of each deceased.

The minister further sought forgiveness from the families and assured them that action will be taken against those found responsible for negligence behind the fire incident at the hospital where Covid-19 patients were being treated.

BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis on Friday alleged that corruption in the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) was responsible for the fire at a hospital

The Shiv Sena currently rules the Mumbai civic body and also heads the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government in the state by sharing power with the NCP and the Congress.

Hitting out at the ruling government, in a tweet he further stated that the Maha-Vikas Aghadi government must own it up and take responsibility now.
