PASIGHAT: The one-day state-level Agri Expo-cum-Kisan Mela was organized successfully by the department of agriculture, GoAP under RKVY RAAFTAR 2022–23, with the participation of a large number of farmers, budding agripreneurs, and other stakeholders on Friday here at Giidi Notko. The event also marked the launch of start-up products by SHGs (ARSLM) and promising young agri entrepreneurs of the district and state under the RKVY-RAFTAAR Agri Business Incubation Project, true to the spirit of skilling and empowering rural Arunachal.
A mega distribution of farm machinery under the Atma Nirbhar Krishi Yojana (ANKY) 2022–23 was organized wherein DC Tayi Taggu and ZPC Olen Rome distributed farm machinery to beneficiary farmers of the scheme. DC urged the farmers to avail themselves of the expertise on farming know-how and get comprehensive awareness of all the state and central schemes in the agri-food and allied sectors to take up farming as a profitable economic activity. The DC also stressed farm mechanisation as a way to boost agricultural productivity.
District Zilla Parishad Chairperson (ZPC), Olen Rome, also urged the farmers to adopt scientific and commercial farming, adding that marketing agricultural produce and products is also not a hurdle nowadays with government assistance and e-marketing avenues. In this age of e-marketing, our products and products from rural areas can reach all parts of the world while stressing on adding value to their products and thus boosting our rural economy, he added.
Meanwhile, District Agriculture Officer (DAO) Opang Moyong highlighted the objectives of the Mela to connect farmers with scientists and different departments and stakeholders in the Agri & Allied sector, create awareness among the farmers about the latest technological developments, etc., and also create a marketing platform, upgrade farming know-how, exhibit new technologies, etc. Later, farmer-scientist interaction wasconducted,d where subject matter experts from the College of Agriculture and HoDs of Agri & Allied departments interacted with the farmers regarding their problems in cultivation of crops, animal rearing, beekeeping, sericulture, etc.
