The shocking incident took place in the morning 3 km from Dhubri town when the boat carrying more than 30 people, including some school students was on its way to Bhashani.

Suddenly, the boat hit something in the mighty river at Adabari and capsized amid the strong water current.

Dhubri circle officer Sanju Das along with two of his assistants were travelling on the boat to visit an erosion-hit area.

Apart from the officer, the boat was carrying a few school students who are also missing.

Local residents started a rescue operation whole the government also engaged divers from the State Disaster Response Force on the spot.

A disaster management officer and a Zilla Parishad member who was also travelling on the boat were rescued and rushed to a local hospital for treatment. They include Victor Saha, Baby Begum, Aynal Hoque, Abdus Salam.

A few passengers managed to swim to safe places while a few others were rescued by the local residents and SDRF divers.

Notably, in 2012 around 103 people, including women and children, drowned and over 100 went missing when a double-decked boat carrying around 250 people capsized in the river Brahmaputra in the same district.

The mishap took place because of the powerful storm.
