Ranjit Bora's Suspected Killers Arrested, Produced in Court

GUWAHATI: The two suspected murderers of Ranjit Bora, identified as Amir Ali and Chintu Medhi alias Kishore, were produced in court today afternoon.

Amir Ali, the alleged mastermind behind the killing of Ranjit Bora, the Purabi Dairy distributor who was shot dead during a robbery at Panjabari on Nov 21, was arrested from the Morigaon area on Monday.

Amir Ali was apparently hiding out in his in- laws house in Borigaon of Morigaon district. He is a resident of Panjabari area in Guwahati, where the incident occurred.

He was reportedly apprehended by Morigaon Police. The Guwahati Commissioner of Police had issued the arrest warrant and a team of officers from Dispur Police Station brought him to Guwahati.

Earlier, he was reported to have been transferred to Basistha police station, where he was interrogated. It was also said by sources that Amir was a police informer.

The other suspect, Chintu Medhi, was said to have been secretly questioned by the police and separately from Amir.

Significantly, Amir's in- laws told the media that made a beeline to their house after the arrest was reported, that he was a drug user.

The crime they are accused of made big news when, on November 21, Ranjit Bora, a distributor of milk brand Purabi Dairy, was shot during a robbery in broad daylight by unidentified gunmen in Panjabari.

Bora was reportedly carrying a hefty amount of cash to deposit at a bank when the shoot and loot incident occurred. The perpetrators were said to have come on a motorcycle.

Amir is known to own a motorcycle, although the make differed from the bike reportedly used in the crime.

After the shooting, Bora was taken to Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) for treatment and was declared brought dead by the doctors attending to him.

The crime, committed in broad daylight in the city, had people questioning the law and order situation in the state's capital city. Many had criticized the police for inaction in the face of increasing theft and robbery incidents in the city in recent times.
